Shasta Daylight Formal Dining Car (editor's title)

Shasta Daylight dining car
Publicity photograph for the dining service on Southern Pacific's Shasta Daylight train, inaugurated in 1949. The dining car had three units: a formal dining section, pictured here; a kitchen; and a lunch counter. Curtains appear in this view, showing that they could be drawn to create a private dining area. As usual with dining car service, the wait staff was African American.
