Engineer's Last Run on Capitol Limited (editor's title)

An unidentified engineer (second from right) makes his last run on the Baltimore & Ohio's easrtbound Capitol Limited on July 31, 1962. The train crew poses with the retiree on the platform at Grand Central Station in Chicago. The photograph next to the locomotive was a common retirement day happening. Today, Amtrak operates the Capitol Limited, departing from Union Station in Chicago.

Creator Description Robert P. Olmsted of Lawrence, Kansas, was born in Kansas, worked in the Chicago area for 35 years and returned to Lawrence in 1995. He began making railroad photographs in March 1948. Olmsted and his wife Carol have written and published more than 36 railroad photography book.
