Carl Donald (1907-1975) works at a centralized traffic control (CTC) board at Deshler, Ohio. He directs trains on the 71 miles of single and double track between Toledo and Lima, 58 miles of it by CTC. Deshler is at the junction of the B&O's Toledo and Chicago Divisions. At his time, all trains on the Toledo Division were steam powered, including the streamlined Cincinnatian. For freight, the railroad operated through and local trains plus coal northbound and iron ore southbound. Donald, promoted to train dispatcher in 1942, retired in February 1972 after 43 years in railroad service.
