Cow and Calf Slug

RF&P Slug #A and SW1500 #6
Exterior, overhead view of a Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac diesel switching locomotive and “slug” working in Potomac Yard in Arlington, Virginia on May 2, 1985. The closer unit, without a cab, is called a “calf” and is paired to a “cow,” the farther locomotive, which controls both units. The calf, #A, was built by Alco as an S-2 and rebuilt by RF&P as a slug, which lacks a diesel engine but retains its electric traction motors. The cow unit is EMD SW1500 #6.
