Southbound Illinois Central's City of New Orleans no. 1 stops at Effingham, Illinois, approximately 198 miles south of Chicago, where it departed. The Effingham station is designed to serve both the IC and Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania railroad tracks are in the foreground.
Richard Neumiller, a native of Peoria, Illinois, took his first railroad slides at the Chicago Railroad Fair in 1950. His photographic activity increased while at Knox College in Galesburg, where he graduated in 1953. He served on the Peoria city council from 1973 to 1984, and as mayor of Peoria in 1984-85. He retired from the Central Illinois Light Co. in 1996, but remains active as a photographer.
