Baltimore & Ohio steam locomotive #831, an 0-8-0 yard switcher, at Willard, Ohio, in 1956. B&O concentrated its steam power in the Midwest during the steam-to-diesel transition. The low camera angle and tight framing on the locomotive exudes an image power, but notice the carbody diesels looming in the background at right. This photograph appears in issue no. 19 of the Center's journal, Railroad Heritage
, a special issue dedicated to Ted Rose's photography.
