Harry Tostado, steel car repairer's helper and rivet heater, at the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway car shops in Topeka, Kansas, in March 1943. He worked at the shops from October 1942 to May 1946, spent 17 months in the army, returned to Topeka and the Santa Fe, and in May 1949 went back to the army for 26 years in railroad service as conductor, brakeman, and yardmaster. His father, Marceleno, born in Mexico, worked for the Santa Fe, 39 years in Topeka and San Bernardino. Harry's grandfathers, brother, two uncles, nephew, and cousin also worked for the railroad. In 2008, Harry is retired in California. Harry and family members living in Topeka confirmed the spelling of the family name, listed incorrectly as "Tostato" on the Library of Congress website.
