View is looking west towards the east end and north side of the Central Pacific Railroad Passenger station (completed 1879). The three-story brick Southern Pacific hospital is at left. Tracks for the new station (dedicated 1926) are visible at left. After decades of joint ownership, the Southern Pacific and Central Pacific formally merged in 1959.
